Bezos's Project Prometheus closes a $10 billion round at a $38 billion valuation
What Happened
The Financial Times reported on April 21 that Project Prometheus, co-led by Bezos and physicist Vikram Bajaj, is finalizing a $10 billion raise at a $38 billion post-money valuation. The lab trains models on robotics interactions, engineering workflows, and physics simulations rather than internet text. Once closed, total funding tops $16 billion. Bezos is reportedly seeking up to $100 billion eventually.
My Take
Calling this another frontier lab funding round flattens it. Bezos is competing with neither OpenAI nor Anthropic but with whoever ends up running industrial automation — Siemens, Rockwell, the GE remnants. The implicit thesis is that LLMs will not solve the factory floor and someone has to. Prediction: Prometheus's first paying customer announcements will be quiet B2B contracts inside Bezos's own logistics network, because Amazon's warehouses are the cleanest physical-AI test bed in the world.
