My Take
Google is making a bet other labs can't: that distribution matters more than the leaderboard. With Search, YouTube, Android, and Workspace, Gemini reaches more humans per day than ChatGPT and Claude combined, even if it loses on benchmarks. The risk is internal — every AI-answered query is a search ad not served, and the company is essentially asking shareholders to accept short-term cannibalization in exchange for owning the AI-native default. It's the right move and it's going to look ugly in two earnings calls.
