Microsoft Ships Agent 365 to General Availability
What Happened
Agent 365 extends Microsoft's identity, security, governance, and management stack to AI agents and their interactions. The product treats agents as first-class enterprise users, with audit trails, permission scopes, and lifecycle management. Microsoft is positioning it as the control plane for the agentic enterprise rather than a competing agent itself.
My Take
This is Microsoft playing its actual hand — not winning the model war, but owning the management layer underneath everyone else's models. If Agent 365 becomes the de facto identity provider for AI agents the way Active Directory did for users, Microsoft locks in the enterprise for another decade regardless of which model wins. Every CISO I know is going to demand this product even if they don't know they want it yet.
