OpenAI Launches Daybreak, a GPT-5.5 Cybersecurity Platform
What Happened
OpenAI introduced Daybreak, a platform combining GPT-5.5, a dedicated GPT-5.5-Cyber model, and Codex Security tooling to find vulnerabilities, model threats, and auto-patch code. The launch positions OpenAI to compete in the regulated-enterprise segment Anthropic has dominated. Tiered access is available to existing OpenAI Enterprise customers starting today.
My Take
Security is becoming the cleanest enterprise wedge in AI because the buyer (the CISO) already has budget and a forcing function (the board). Daybreak is OpenAI admitting that consumer ChatGPT growth alone won't justify an $852B valuation — they need contract revenue. Watch the renewal motion: if security-tuned variants get adopted, OpenAI builds a wall against open-source models that no amount of cheap inference can climb. If they don't, the enterprise gap with Anthropic widens.
