Palo Alto Networks Acquires AI Gateway Startup Portkey

Palo Alto Networks agreed to acquire Portkey, an Elevation Capital-backed AI gateway startup, in a deal valued at roughly $120-140 million. Portkey provides observability, routing, and security for LLM API calls. The acquisition adds AI-agent-aware capabilities to Palo Alto's enterprise security portfolio.

Small deal, big signal. Cybersecurity vendors are now treating AI agents as a new attack surface category — closer to "endpoint" than "application." That reframing will trigger a wave of acquisitions in the $100-500M range over the next year as Cisco, CrowdStrike, and Fortinet race to add agent-layer products. If you run an AI gateway, observability, or prompt-injection defense startup, your acquisition window is open right now.
