Trending on Reddit: Anthropic strips Claude Code from the $20 Pro plan, then reverses within hours

Anthropic updated its pricing pages and docs on April 21 to remove Claude Code from the $20 Pro tier, restricting it to the $100+ Max plan. Head of Growth Amol Avasare said the change targeted only 2% of new prosumer signups. After developer outcry across r/ClaudeAI, r/ClaudeCode, and Hacker News, the public pages reverted within hours.

Reddit framed this as Anthropic getting greedy. Agent inference economics are structurally different from chat — $20/month for unattended agent loops was always a loss leader. The reversal is the interesting part: the company blinked because the optics were worse than the unit economics, not because the math changed. Prediction: Anthropic introduces a metered or capped Pro tier within a quarter, calls it "fair use," and the loud minority quietly accepts it once the alternative is no Claude Code at all.
