Trending on Reddit: Deezer Says 44% of New Songs Uploaded Daily Are Now AI-Generated
What Happened
Deezer reported AI-generated tracks are 44% of all daily uploads, up from 10,000 per day in January 2025 to 75,000 per day now. Despite the flood, AI tracks account for only 1–3% of plays. A Deezer survey found 97% of listeners couldn't distinguish fully-AI from human-made music; 80% want AI tracks clearly labeled. Deezer began platform-level tagging in June 2025.
My Take
The streaming-economics story is more interesting than the "AI music is bad" reflex. If 44% of supply earns 1% of plays, two things break: discovery algorithms get gamed by spam farms, and the per-stream royalty pool keeps getting diluted. Spotify, Apple, and YouTube Music will be forced into mandatory AI labeling within twelve months — not for ethical reasons, but because rights holders will demand a separate royalty pool. Watch the labels push for "human-made" as a paid tier.
