Trending on X: Anthropic Launches Claude Design, Figma Drops 7%
What Happened
Anthropic launched Claude Design, a research preview that turns conversational prompts into interactive prototypes, slides, and marketing assets using Claude Opus 4.7. Figma shares fell as much as 7.28% to $18.84. Chief Product Officer Mike Krieger had already resigned from Figma's board on April 14 as the competing product was reported.
My Take
The design-tool incumbents just learned what lawyers, writers, and consultants have been learning for two years — that a horizontal AI lab can assemble a "good enough" vertical product in a weekend. Figma's moat was collaboration and file format, not drawing rectangles. The real threat isn't Claude Design today; it's that Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google are now in the habit of vertically integrating on top of every SaaS category. Expect the next target to be CRMs.
