What Happened
Google will invest $10B immediately with another $30B tied to milestones, plus 5 gigawatts of Google Cloud capacity over five years. Anthropic's annualized revenue jumped from $1B at end-2024 to $30B by early April 2026. Amazon also added a $5B follow-on and a $100B compute commitment. My Take
Everyone is reading this as a search hedge, but the more interesting move is Google buying optionality against its own Gemini roadmap. If Mythos lands as well as the Firefox zero-day work suggests, Google effectively owns two of the top three frontier labs by exposure. The under-discussed risk: OpenAI's "isolation" is a marketing problem, not a compute problem — they just signed bilateral deals replacing Stargate. Watch for OpenAI to announce a sovereign-cloud partner in Q3.
