Trending on X: GPT-5.4-Cyber vs Mythos Sparks AI Security Philosophy Clash
What Happened
OpenAI released GPT-5.4-Cyber, a model fine-tuned for defensive cybersecurity with reduced refusals for vetted users, through its Trusted Access for Cyber program. On the same day, Bloomberg reported the US Treasury is seeking emergency access to Anthropic's Mythos. On X, commentators contrasted OpenAI's open-but-verified approach with Anthropic's 50-company lockdown under Project Glasswing, debating which strategy better balances broad access against catastrophic risk.
My Take
Both companies are using cybersecurity to define their brand. OpenAI is playing the responsible-access card: trust us, we verify. Anthropic is playing the nuclear-weapons card: this is too dangerous for most. Neither framing is fully honest. OpenAI's model is a fine-tune of an existing product with guardrails loosened. Anthropic's Mythos restrictions are partly marketing — scarcity drives perceived value. The winner won't be whoever has the scarier model but whoever builds the largest trusted network of security partners first.
